Studio portrait of 2176 Private Norman Mackay Field, 45th Battalion of Granville, NSW. A cement worker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 22 August 1916. He was killed in action on 7 June 1917 during the battle at Messines, Belgium, aged 34. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
