Studio portrait of 1536 Private George Edward Gentle, 19th Battalion of South Granville, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 12 May 1915. He was wounded at Flers, France, on 14 November 1917 while carrying up rations and died hours later that day, aged 42. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
