Studio portrait of 3479 Private (later Sergeant) Alfred Lewis Groom Stevenson, 13th (later 45th) Battalion of Penrith, NSW. A fitter and turner prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Port Lincoln (A17) on 13 October 1915. He was killed in action on 10 June 1917 at Messines, Belgium, aged 23. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium
