Studio portrait of 3055 Private Charles Hambling, 1st Battalion of Canley Vale, NSW. A tilemaker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Warilda (A69) on 8 October 1915. He was killed in action on 5 November 1916, near Flers, France, aged 22. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
