Studio portrait of 29 Private John Copeland, 27th (later 48th) Battalion of Adelaide, SA. A farmer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) on 31 May 1915. He was killed in action on 23 November 1916 during fighting at Bulls Road, Flers, France, aged 34. He is buried in the AIF Burial Ground, Flers, France.
