Studio portrait of 4277 Private (Pte) James Plunkett, 11th Battalion (left), of Landsborough, Vic, with an unidentified soldier. A labourer prior to enlistment Pte James Plunkett embarked from Fremantle, WA with the 13th Reinforcements on board HMAT Borda (A30) on 17 January 1916. Pte Plunkett was reported missing and killed in action on 16 April 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. 1127 Sapper (Spr) John Punkett, C Company, 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company died of wounds on 30 April 1917, two weeks after his brother. He is buried at the Fosse No. 10 Communal Cemetery Extension, Sains-En-Schelle, France.
