A memorial in Lisarow Cemetery for Private (Pte) 1017 Cecil 'Curly' Carrington Wamsley, C Company, 20th Battalion, of Ourimbah, NSW. A bushman prior to enlistment he embarked from Sydney on board Transport Berrima on 25 June 1915. Pte Wamsley was reported missing and killed in action on 26 July 1916, aged 25. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France. The elaborate marble column was erected to the memory of their beloved youngest son by parents Albert and Eliza Wamsley. The first grandson born after his death was given Curly's names, and even his nickname. The column is cut off at an angle and a laurel wreath sits on the cut angle, the word ANZAC sits below the wreath and below that are crossed British and Australian flags then entwined flowers (possibly lilies). The inscription on the base of the column reads: "He answered his country's call. In loving memory of Pte Cecil C. (Curly) No 1017 20th Batt AIF. Dearly loved youngest son of Albert A E & Eliza Wamsley. Killed in action "Pozieres" France 26th July 1916 aged 25 1/2 years. His duty done, life's troubles o'er. The stonemason was Browne of Maitland & Sandgate.
