Description
Studio portrait of 404783 Aircraftman (AC), later Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Sydney Frederick Miller, of Caniaba, NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment, Flt Sgt Miller had already served as a trainee in the 41st Battalion, before being discharged to enlist in the RAAF. He enlisted on 8 November 1940, and embarked at Sydney for training in Canada on 28 December 1940. After completing training, he was initially posted to 143 Squadron RAF, and eventually posted to 58 Squadron RAF on 1 May 1943. Flt Sgt Miller's aircraft went missing on air operations, and he was declared Presumed Dead on 1 June 1943; his name is recorded at the Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede.
