Hodgson, Jack
Studio portrait of VX19175 Private (Pte) Jack Hodgson of East Brunswick, Victoria. Born on the 10th of February 1916, Jack Hodgson enlisted on 29 May 1940 and served in the 7th Division AASC. On the 3rd of September 1945, aboard HMAS Kanimbla, he wrote a letter to his wife describing his anticipation of seeing her the next day for the first time in years; "This is my last night on the boat Love - I hope. We are due in tomorrow afternoon sometime... I will wire you as soon as I can anyhow, so you will have time to leave your job. It's a very happy ship tonight; everyone is giving their gear a final check over..I will finish off here now Love, and write the finish to the letter before I post it. God I am so excited. Home again - for keeps. It's what we have been looking forward to Darling, all these years. What a marvellous world." (see PR04402) Pte Hodgson was discharged on 25 September 1945.
