Studio portrait of 4170 Private (Pte) Leonard Mortimer Duncan, 4th Battalion, of Byron Bay, NSW. A student prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas on 20 December 1915. A few months later he transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 14 February 1916. Pte Duncan was killed in action on 23 July 1916 at Pozieres, Somme Sector, aged 19.
