Informal portrait of, left, SX8897 Captain (Capt) Arthur Ivan Hare and SX8973 Capt William Ronald Wesley Tucker, both 2/43 Battalion. Capt Hare, of St Peters, SA, was a school master prior to enlisting in July 1940. He was killed in action at El Alamein, Egypt, on 1 November 1942, aged 34 years. Capt Hare was posthumously awarded the Military Cross (MC) for gallantry in action during service at Tel el Eisa, Egypt, in October 1942. Capt Tucker, of Snowtown, SA, later served in the Pacific and was promoted to the rank of Major in February 1944. He was discharged in March 1946.
