Studio portrait of 60914 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) David Leithhead, RAAF, of Maroubra, NSW. David Leithhead enlisted in the AIF on the 28 September 1918 with the service number V80710. The First World War ended prior to his embarkation for overseas service, and he was discharged later in 1918. He then established a career as a school teacher prior to enlisting in the RAAF on 23 September 1941. Flt Lt Leithhead trained and served as a photogapher and cinematographer, commanding the RAAF School of Photography in Canberra in 1944. Posted overseas in 1945 he served as a cinematographer firstly in India, then in Burma where he filmed the transport of supplies to Kunming China. Flt Lt Leithhead was discharged on 8 July 1946.
