Description

Studio portrait of 3260 Private (Pte) Albert Edward Landaman, 17th Battalion, of Pyrmont, NSW, Barbara, his wife, and their son Edward. A tram conductor prior to enlisting in August 1915, Pte Landaman embarked from Sydney with the 7th Reinforcements on board HMAT Suevic (A29) on 20 December 1915. In February 1916 he was transferred to the 55th Battalion and in March to the 5th Pioneer Battalion, where he was allocated the regimental number 3260A. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June 1916 and on 12 July was appointed Lance Corporal. Pte Landaman was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 13 August 1916 for rescue work he performed at Petillon, France, on 21 to 22 July 1916. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in October 1916 and Sergeant on 5 April 1917. Sergeant Landaman MM was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 14 September 1917. He was 28 years of age.
