Studio portrait of 1863 Private (Pte) (later Shoeing Smith Corporal) Richard Leslie Oliver Butters, Imperial Camel Corps, of Lismore, Vic. Formerly a blacksmith, Pte Butters enlisted on 31 January 1917 and as a member of the December 1916 Reinforcements, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Boorara (A42) on 10 May 1917. He served in the Middle East with the 15th Light Horse Regiment, where he died of dysentery on 22 November 1918, aged 25 years.
