Studio portrait of 1913 Pte (later Sgt) Leslie Malcolm Black, 1st Battalion, of Junee, NSW, son of Emma Jane Kilmartin, (formerly Black), of Richmond, Vic, and the late John Black, of Junee, NSW. A fireman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He was killed in action on 1 January 1917 at Guedercourt near Flers, France, aged 27. He is buried in the Bulls Road Cemetery, Flers, France.
