Studio portrait of 1550 Corporal (Cpl) Elwin Bruce Olifent, 27th Battalion, of Henley Beach, SA. A clerk prior to enlisting in February 1915, Olifent embarked from Adelaide with the 1st Reinforcements on board HMAT Geelong (A2) on 31 May 1915. He served at Gallipoli where he was promoted to Sergeant in September 1915. In France, in August 1916, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Lt). 2nd Lt Olifent was killed in action in France on 5 November 1916. He was 29 years of age.
