Informal portrait of the Colenso family of Kingsford, NSW. All four brothers enlisted on 1 July 1940 in 2/18 Battalion. Back row, from the left: NX55834 Private (Pte) (later Corporal) Raymond Joseph (Ray) Colenso, who was killed in action in Singapore 9 February 1942, aged 23; Mr William Colenso; Mrs Winifred Colenso; NX55835 Pte Francis Leslie John (Frank) Colenso, who became a prisoner of war following the fall of Singapore and returned to Australia in 1945. Front row, from left: NX55832 Pte (later Corporal) Edward Thomas (Ted) Colenso, also a prisoner of war who returned to Australia in 1945; NX55833 Pte (later Lance Corporal) William Edward (Bill) Colenso who was killed in action in Singapore on 11 February 1942, aged 31.
