Studio portrait of QX16955 Private (Pte) Arthur James Manteit, 2/26 Battalion, of Peranga, Qld. He enlisted from Toowoomba on 23 April 1941. Pte Manteit was killed in action in Malaya on 15 January 1942, aged 23. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Singapore Memorial. His Brother QX19544 Pte Edward August Manteit, 2/26 Battalion died of illness as a Prisoner of War on 4 October 1943 and his uncle QX19544 Gordon Eric Stanberg, 2/26 Battalion died of illness as a Prisoner of War on 13 August 1943.
