Studio portrait of 137 Private Dan Jaques, 25th Battalion, of Roma, Qld; formerly of York, England. A labourer prior to enlisting in January 1915, Jaques embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT Aeneas (A60) on 29 June 1915. He was promoted to Corporal (Cpl) at Gallipoli in September 1915 and contracted typhoid in December. He was returned to Australia in January 1916 and embarked a second time from Brisbane onboard HMAT Clan MacGillivray (A46) on 19 September 1916. Cpl Jaques arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June 1917 and was wounded in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 20 September 1917. He died of his wounds on 22 September. Cpl Jaques was 23 years of age.
