Studio portrait of 4795 Private (Pte) Hector Goldsbrough, 4th Battalion, of Manly. NSW. A farm labourer prior to enlisting in November 1915, Pte Goldsbrough embarked from Sydney with the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Star of England (A15) on 8 March 1916. He was transferred to the 56th Battalion in April and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June. On 2 April 1917 Pte Goldsbrough was wounded in action at Louverval, France. He died of his wounds on 4 April 1917. Pte Goldsbrough was 23 years of age. His brother 2172 Pte Roy Goldsbrough, 56th Battalion, was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 16 May 1917.
