Description
Collection relating to the First World War service of 181 Able Seaman Driver Laurie John Smee, Royal Australian Naval Bridging Train (RANBT). The collection consists of an original handwritten diary (contained in a rubberised cloth pouch) covering embarkation from Melbourne in June 1915, service on Gallipoli and in Egypt, and arrival back in Melbourne in July 1917. The diary contains a number of sketched maps and diagrams relating to the Bridging Train's work on Gallipoli. A small pressed flower has been slipped inside the diary pages. Also included in the collection is a typescript of the diary with a copy of Smee's service record at the back.
