Description
7309 Orderly Room Sergeant (Sgt) William Lambert in France resting in the open door of a captured German freight car bearing the city name 'Cöln' (Cologne). A clerk of Burnley, Victoria, Sgt Lambert embarked on 23 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40). He was attached to 2 Casualty Clearing Station on 16 June 1916 and was made acting Company Quartermaster on 8 March 1917; a position he was officially promoted to on 11 May. In 1917 he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer (Class 2). He returned to Australia on 2 June 1919 and was discharged in September.
