Sling for memorial flag from Vietnam Welcome Home Parade, 1987 : Private J H Bullman, 1 Reinforcement Unit
White canvas sling used to carry blue ensign attached to wooden pole bearing an engraved silver plate 'Pte J.H. Bullman 1 A.R.U. R.A. Inf.'
Flag sling from the Vietnam Welcome Home Parade held in Sydney in 1987. The parade was led by the next of kin, or other representative, of every Australian who died in Vietnam, each of whom carried an Australian flag. The staff of each flag bore a metal plaque engraved with the serviceman's name and unit. This flag related to 2794031 J H Bullman.
John Harold Bullman was born in 1948, and was working as a shearer when he enlisted in the Australian Army. He deployed to Vietnam on 9 July 1970 with 1 Reinforcement Unit. Bullman was wounded in Phuoc Tuy Province on 20 July 1970 when an artillery round fell short, exploding nearby. He was evacuated to 1 Field Hospital at Vung Tau, but died of his wounds the following night. He is buried at Wellington Cemetery in New South Wales.
