Studio portrait of NX34578 Private (Pte) Alan Stowell Cox, 2/10 Field Ambulance Australian Army Medical Corps. Pte Cox enlisted on 18 June 1940 in Paddington, NSW. He was taken as a Prisoner of War by the Japanese in early 1942. In April 1943 he was appointed to the medical section of F Force, one of the groups of POWs sent to work on the Thai-Burma Railway. Pte Cox died of illness on 28 January 1944 at Tanbaya Hospital Camp, Myanmar. He is buried at the Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Myanmar.
