Pre-war studio portrait of 1369 Private (Pte) Henry Bernard Kennedy. Pte Kennedy was 35 years old and a waterside worker at the time he enlisted on 2 January 1915. Although he was originally from Victoria, he enlisted at Townsville with the 2nd Reinforcements to the 9th Battalion and embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Seang Bee (A48). He was wounded in action on the Gallipoli Peninsula, but was able to rejoin his unit by October 1915. After the withdrawal from Gallipoli, he was transferred to the 49th Battalion to serve on the Western Front. He was wounded at Rouen in September 1916 and sent to hospital in England, rejoining his unit in France in April 1917. Pte Kennedy was wounded in action again on Anzac Day 1918 and died of his wounds on 3 May.
