Located in the Dili suburb of Caicoli, Camp Phoenix is the Headquarters for the ISF and also for 631, the joint task force of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces which operates as a part of Operation Astute. At this time, Australia had approximately 850 personnel serving in the task force, which was formed in 2006 as a result of the crisis in East Timor and which replaced the United Nations Office in East Timor (UNOTIL). The Australian personnel of ISF working within Operation Astute work in conjunction with another United Nations multinational force, United Nations Integrated Mission in East Timor (UNMIT).
