3219 Corporal George Lloyd MM (right) and two other unidentified stretcher bearers, one believed to be 3373 Private (Pte) Norman Henry Sadler MM (position unknown), of the 12th Field Ambulance carrying a wounded man. Cpl Lloyd, a boot salesmen by profession, enlisted at Melbourne on 20 March 1915 and embarked from Port Melbourne aboard HMAT A31 Ajana on 4 June 1915. After service at Gallipoli he served in France and Belgium and returned to Australia on 10 November 1918. On 6 October 1917 Cpl Lloyd was recommended for the Military Medal. His recommendation reads: " On the 4th October 1917, when in charge of a stretcher party in the neighbourhood of Zonnebeke exhibited marked gallantry. On two occasions he had to pass through a heavy barrage, but by his coolness and courage managed on both occasions to get his patient safely to the next relay post".
