This Military Medal and service medals relate to Warrant Officer Class II L B Skinner of the 4th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force during the First World War.
Leslie Benjamin Skinner was born in Waterloo, Sydney in 1891. He joined the AIF on 11 January 1915 and he departed as a member of the 4th reinforcements for the 4th Battalion in March that year. He saw service on Gallipoli with the Battalion and later on the Western Front where he was wounded near Villers-Bretonneux on 28 April 1918. He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions as an Acting Company Sergeant Major in September 1918. In May 1919 he returned to Australia as a Warrant Officer Class II. Skinner was discharged from the AIF in September that year. He married Gladys Beckmann in 1920 and together they had several children. One of their children was Benjamin Thomas who was born in September 1922. Benjamin served in the Second World with the AIF in New Guinea and his medals are also held within the National Collection as REL44972.001. In 1938 Leslie died in Sydney.
