Ward, Arthur Edgar (Private, b.1911 - d.1945)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of N297435 Private Arthur Edgar Ward, 61 Infantry Battalion.
Collection consists of four letters (one is incomplete) written by Pte Ward home to his family - his sister Kate (Kit), her husband Albert Sweeney (Bert), and their daughter Joyce (Joe), the incomplete one appears to be written to his father. All the letters were written in early 1945. The main topics include: his replies to news from home, the weather, entertainment, sports and his particular interest in horse racing. The longer more detailed letter to his father also mentions his work in a Malaria Control Squad spraying for mosquitoes, and a hospital stay due to Dengue Fever.
Also included is a 1944 Christmas Card, from Arthur to Bert, Kit and Family; and telegram notifying the family of his death on South Bougainville on 1 April 1945.
