Studio portrait of cousins Sapper (Spr) 6293 Vivian Edward Hook and Spr 6273 George William Edward Hook, both of the 1st Field Company Engineers. Both men enlisted on 14 September 1915 at the Warwick Farm Depot, New South Wales. Spr Vivian Hook was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal on 27 April 1918, whilst serving in France. Spr George Hook was transferred to the 3rd Field Company Engineers on 9 September 1916 and was appointed as a driver in 1917. Both men returned to Australia on the hospital ship Soudan on 1 August 1919.
