Squatting Prisoner of War
Description
Ralph Traffod Walker's sculpture "Squatting Prisoner of War", 1947-1948, plaster, bronze patina. The image depicts a sculpture of a Japanese prisoner of war at Rabaul from the Second World War. His sparse and ragged clothing do little to hide his skeletal frame. The black and white image, with its emphasis on light and shade typifies Max Dupain's artistic style. The image was created for the Australian War Memorial publication 'As You Were 1949' and appears on page 53.
