Description

Portrait of Commodore (Cmdre) Ivan Raoul Jones of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). He joined the RAN at the age of 13 and trained at HMAS Cerberus enlisting on 1 January 1938. Cmdre Jones trained in England with the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He served on HMS Terrible, Drake and Howe and HMAS Sydney and then on HMAS Quiberon. He was involved in the building and training for HMAS Hobart in the United States and then served in Vietnam on Hobart's First tour of duty. In 1979, Cmdre Jones was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) Military Division for service as Director-General of Fleet Maintenance. He retired as a Commodore and was discharged on 6 April 1979.
