Slings for 3 inch mortar barrel carrying harness
Description
Pair of 'tropic treated' jungle green cotton webbing slings with a wax coated manufacturer's paper tag. Each sling consists of a long strap with a steel spring clip at one end and a brass tip with two eyelets at the opposite end. The paper tag reads '3in MORTAR SPARES'.
History / Summary
A pair of spare slings for the 3 inch mortar number 1 harness. Example of the type of mortar carrying equipment used by a mortar crew. The 3 inch mortar could be divided into three major sections for man transport. Number 1 harness was designed to carry the barrel component, as the steel ring is attached to the breech end and the buckle and leather strap supports the barrel in place.
