Description

Lieutenant Howard Kingsley Love (left), an electrical engineer from St Kilda, Victoria, and Lieutenant Colonel Harry McLeod Duigan (left), a solicitor from St Kilda, Victoria, both of the 60th Battalion. Duigan embarked with the 29th Battalion, and was transferred to the 60th Battalion in June 1916. Love enlisted as a Private with the 8th Battalion, and was transferred to the 60th Battalion as a member of the 5th Division Cyclist Company in early 1916. Duigan appointed him adjutant of the Battalion and he was promoted to lieutenant. In the latter half of 1917 he transferred to the Australian Flying Corps, and during his training in England became engaged to Muriel Pye from Lincoln. His aircraft was shot down in April 1918 and he became a prisoner of war. He was repatriated in December 1918, and he and Muriel were married the same month. (See also P10550.094)
