Description
Portrait of two Australian soldiers. Identified, left, is 2904 Sergeant (Sgt) Angus Valentine Wilson, 4th Pioneer Battalion, a milkman from Williamstown, Victoria. Originally embarked with the 14th Battalion, Angus Wilson was transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion in March 1916. Sgt Wilson was awarded the Military Medal for courage and determination while leading a platoon on the night of 4 July, 1918. His platoon marked out a communication trench between the front line and support trenches under heavy enemy fire, and the recommendation for the Military Medal stated that Sgt Wilson 'showed great determination, courage and resource throughout.'
