Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of 3669 Lance Corporal Harold Gilkes, 2 Battalion, France. Collection consists of four letters, three post-cards and five envelopes all written by L/Cpl Harold Gilkes to his cousin Miss Hilda Grist. The letters describe the weather, billets in France, fighting at Pozieres and illness in hospital. Also included is an in-memoriam card with envelope for Gilkes who died in France on 24 June 1918.
