Japanese seaplane tender the 'Nanyei Maru'. In December 1940 the Japanese commenced test flights for an air service operating between Palau and Dili, the capital of Portuguese Timor. This photograph was taken after the Nanyei (or Nanei) Maru arrived in Dili on 22 January 1941, the day prior to the arrival of the flying boat that marked the third experimental Japanese flight.
