Baltic Medal 1854-1855 : Able Seaman C Gibson
Description
Baltic Medal 1854-1855. Unnamed as issued to the Royal Navy. Obverse: The diademed head of Queen Victoria with the date '1854' underneath and the legend 'VICTORIA REGINA' around the circumference. Reverse: The seated figure of Britannia holding a trident in her right hand and looking over her left shoulder. Behind her are depicted the fortresses of Bomarsund and Sveaborg, with the word 'BALTIC' above. In the exergue are the dates '1854-1855'. The medal is fitted with a swivelling scroll suspender and a piece of 37 mm yellow ribbon with blue edges.
History / Summary
Awarded to Able Seaman Charles Gibson, Royal Navy, for service in the Baltic. Gibson also served in the Baltic, Mediterranean and in New Zealand. He later transferred to the coastguard.
