Description

Baseplate for Type 97 81 mm mortar. The baseplate is made from ordnance steel and is rectangular in shape and features a folding carry handle. The baseplate has provisions to change the elevation of the mortar barrel. Anchor spikes are fitted to the base. The baseplate is painted matt grey. The bawe plate has been perforated by shell splinters. Markings 2971.

History / Summary

Type 97 81 mm mortar baseplate used by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second World War. The baseplate was recovered by The 9th Military History team and transported to Australian onboard the HMAS Manoora.
