Informal group portrait of soldiers of 4th Troop, 12th Light Horse Regiment, after the second battle of Gaza. The second battle of Gaza began on 17 April 1917 with British and Austrlaian forces launching a frontal assault on the Turkish defences. The 12th Light Horse Regiment joined the battle on 19 April 1917, a day before the attack was called off. Identified, second from left, front row, is 294 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Charles Doherty.
