Native head
Description
Originally called 'Boy from Arawe'. The sculpture depicts the head of a member of the New Guinea Infantry Battalion, with the artist noting that he was from a district where the heads of children are bound, causing an elongated effect. Ralph Trafford Walker (1912-2003) was a painter, printmaker and sculptor. He studied at the East Sydney Technical College with sculptor Rayner Hoff and produced dioramas for the Australian War Memorial c. 1945.
