Scotch College Diamond Jubilee medal : Colonel John Monash
Description
Scotch College Diamond Jubilee medal.
History / Summary
Lieutenant General Sir John Monash was an arts, engineering and law student who went on to become one of Australia’s most highly respected commanders of the First World War. He was born in Melbourne in 1865 and was educated at Scotch College, that had opened in 1851 under the name The Melbourne Academy.
In 1911 the school celebrated its 60th 'diamond' anniversary from 4 to 8 October. At the reunion on 6 October (the school's 'Foundation Day'), the current and former scholars were presented with a jubilee medal each.
