Description

Royal Australian Navy (RAN) officer's navy blue wool peaked cap with a white pique cotton cover. The patent leather peak is black on top and green underneath. An RAN officer's gold bullion wire embroidered cap badge is sewn to the front of the black mohair hat band. 'T. MILNER' has been written on the brown leather sweatband. The cap is is complete with a black patent leather chin strap that runs across the top of the peak.

History / Summary

This cap was worn by Midshipman Thomas Milner, RAN, between May 1934 and September 1936, when he was appointed acting sub-lieutenant. He was made a substantive sub-lieutnenant in March 1937. Milner was invalided out of the navy in early 1939 after a rugby accident. During the period 1934-1939 he served on HMA ships Australia and Canberra, and underwent further training at HMAS Cerberus and with the Royal Navy in England.
