Trophy: Musketry Silver Cup, 12th Brigade AIF
Description
Burnt and battered remains of 12th Brigade AIF's musketry silver cup trophy. Features two handles which have become detatched from the twisted and bent body, and a lid engraved with a simple pattern.
History / Summary
The cup was dumped with the Brigade's baggage at Meteren on the border with Belgium in March 1918 when the brigade was hurried to the Somme. In April the Germans advanced in the Hazebrouck sector and Meteran fell into their hands. In May 1919, an Australian Officer visited the ruins of the village and came across the cup with two handles and the lid broken off.
