Lieutenant Colonel Carl Jess
Description
Portrait of Colonel and Temporary Brigadier General (later Lieutenant General Sir) Carl Herman Jess, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), Commanding 10th Infantry Brigade, 1st Australian Imperial Force. Colonel Jess is shown wearing a tunic with DSO and an Order of the White Eagle ribbons, and a Sam Browne belt slung over his shoulder. As there are no service medals depicted, this portrait would have been painted prior to or immediately after the end of the war in 1918.
