Loft at Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel
Description
Loft being used as an observation post by AIF soldiers at St Sylvestre Chapelle, near Lys Area, Western Front. This painting is mentioned in Bean's diaries: (1918) July 12th.... "I had arranged for Scott, one of our A.I.F. artists to meet me here. He had been up in the O.P. yesterday painting the scene in the O.P. - I saw the painting and it was excellently typical, with a number of observers in a loft looking out through the holes in the broken tile roof."
