Night landing exercises, amphibious operations
Description
Dargie observed night training exercises, noting "16 Brigade Personnel, in conjunction with U.S. Naval Landing Craft, at White Cliffs Bay, North of Cairns. Time 0430 hrs". Under the light of flares, the landing craft run up onto the beach where the men re-form their companies and move into the scrub. Jeeps and bulldozers are also landed and stores are piled up on the beach. To give an air of reality to the exercies, gelignite charges are exploded along the shore.
