not titled [study for Night landing exercises, amphibious operations]
Description
Study for ART22252 'Night landing exercises, amphibious operations'. This watercolour was given by the artist to VX14985 Lieutenant William Illingworth Taylor, who was posted at Atherton as a staff artist with Table Tops newspaper, and who had met Dargie while traveling back from the Middle East with the 9th Division early in 1943. Taylor remembered that Dargie made this watercolour sketch of 16 Brigade and US Naval landing craft undertaking night training exercises at Trinity beach, Cairns, under only the light of the gelignite flares.
