War Loan propaganda, Collins Street, Melbourne
Description
This work depicts a military band performing on a specially constructed stand, while a tank is parked below. The band is performing near a sign reading 'AUSTERITY' in order to appeal to the patriotically minded people of Melbourne to invest in the war loan. The work was drawn by John Dowie when he was working in Melbourne as assistant to the sculptor Lyndon Dadswell in the Military History Section of the Australian War Memorial.
