Cartoon for transport mural (Australia)
Description
Depicts a mural design of a stylised map of Australia, with shepp, a kangaroo, gum tree and Australian flag. A ship rests against the edge of the west Australian coast , while beside it is a stylised map of Great Britain and Ireland and a British flag. The mural design was originally commissioned for the Australian Air Base at Lincoln, Great Britain. The air base was RAF Binbrook from which 460 Squadron (RAAF) flew Lancasters during the Second World War. This mural design is one of 72 by Merial Joyce Millen, part of a series of 'decorations showing transport by land, sea and air' intended as murals to decorate the messes and buildings at the air base.
